The HR Forum discuss “Absence Management”

The HR Forum, part of The Platinum Group, met to discuss and share best practice regarding “Absence Management” in April. The Group discussed the issues of absence in the workplace and how to improve attendance levels, including how to conduct effective return to work interviews.

Denise Waite the Owner of The HR Department (Wolverhampton), the guest speaker for the meeting, gave advice and guidance to The Group regarding Absence Management. Denise has over 20 years’ experience in a range of sectors including FMCG, Professional Services and Hotels & Leisure in national and international, single and multi-site roles. Having worked at a senior level in multi-cultural environments she has worked all over the world including the UK, Moscow, Dubai and Ho Cho Minh City, Vietnam.

Denise said: “It was an honour and great pleasure to speak at The HR Forum. A major concern for all employers is how to handle long and short term absence. By introducing return to work interviews and measuring tools, as well as training managers on how to use them and how to have what can be difficult conversations, a significant improvement can be made.

Black Country Chamber of Commerce believes if we are to achieve the ambitious goal of doubling the size of the Black Country economy within a decade, then a critical part of this is our ability to effectively lead and manage people. The HR Forum has therefore been specifically designed for the HR Managers/HR Directors of The Platinum Group and The Chamber Patron Group.

The HR Forum provides a safe and totally confidential setting where HR issues, challenges and best practice can be shared and explored. The aim of The HR Forum is to address the following question, "How can the HR function of your business make a real, sustained and measurable contribution to the profits of your company?”
